Till Lindemann, the singer of Rammstein
was born on 4th january 1963. He is german, and has spent his childhood behind
the Berlin wall, that is to say the communism part of Berlin, where fascism,
the other side of Germany and the capitalism was seen by a bad eye, that is
what he has learned at school. He has grown up with the image of Auschwitz and
Buchenwald. During his childhood he was a good swimmer and obtained prices for
this.
Poetry was also a favourite pass-time for him and of course music. He
has played with a group, whose name was: First Arsch.
Beginning 1993, Christoph, Richard and Oliver had a project to create a
new style of music, which they couldn’t include in their different groups. A
short time later Till joined them. With a demo of 4 songs they won a price.
Flake and Paul joined the group and Rammstein was born.
All have abandonned their former groups and nearly at the same time they
had problems with their wifes, it was specialy hard. Hate and pain can be feeled
in their first songs, especially “Rammstein”, “WeiBes Fleisch”, “Der Seemann”,
and “Das alte Leid”.
The group signed a contract with Motor Music. After a concert in Hamburg
(december), the producer Jacob Hellner (producer of Clawfinger), accepted to produce
the first album of Rammstein.
Since this time one succes followed another one, the concerts take place
everywhere in the world. RAMMSTEIN needs no longer to show what they are able
to do, it’s always done and this won’t stop.
The group is often critizised and baddly treated by the press: music too
hard, words too agressiv, they have been called neo-nazis, but if one listens
to their songs, and they are numerous, one can see that there are in no point
neo-nazis, they only say what they feel and what they want to say, that’s all!
Rock and Metal music has nothing to do with romantic music!! The members of the
group have never said their political opinion, and in case, it’s not very
important, what is sure they are certainly not neo-nazis, far from it. Yes,
they like provocation, play with fire, hard images … well, films are often much
more hard and cruel and nobody says anything. In another way, people who see a
provocation in Rammstein, are often those who have bad thoughts!!
The name of Rammstein cames from a catastroph of Ramstein, a
demonstration flight, where a plane has crashed, killing several people. Having
taking this name is giving honour to all the
people who died during this crash.
